History
On 13 April 2005, association the VIP-UZH (Association of Infrastructure Staff at the University of Zurich) was founded. One of the most important immediate objectives when the VIP was established (from 2020: V-ATP) was to secure recognition as the fourth representative body at UZH. To this end, the Board had already submitted an application to the EUL in September 2007 for the official recognition of administrative and technical staff (ATP) as a representative body at the University of Zurich.
Following intensive political processes within the university and at cantonal level, this objective was achieved on 1 April 2020: the ATP is now a representative body at UZH.
How the ATP became a representative body - a short history

2020 |
On 1 April 2020, the revised University Act (UniG), which governs the reorganisation of the representative bodies at UZH, comes into force. Alongside the UniG, new election regulations, new statutes and a service agreement with the Executive Board of the University also come into force. With the establishment of the fourth representative body, the former association VIP was transferred to the V-ATP (Association of the Administrative and Technical Staff). |
| 2019 | The Parliament of the Canton of Zurich unanimously approves the revised Universitiy Act in September, after the Government Council had endorsed the bill and referred it to the Cantonal Parliament. |
| 2018 |
At the extraordinary general meeting held on 27 November 2018, the new articles of association for the future representative body organisation are adopted. In this context, the new name of the association is also established, to take effect upon the full co-determination rights coming into force. Since 1 April 2020, the ATP’s representative body organisation is known as the Association of the Administrative and Technical Staff (V-ATP). | 2014 - 2015 | Various motions and assessments by the ATP lead to university and faculty bodies gradually opening up to the ATP, and these become incorporated into the draft revision to the University Act. |
| 2008 - 2010 |
An intense rollercoaster of motions, discussions, tentative signs of openness, intermittent rejections, delays and renewed efforts keep the VIP Executive Board and its members on their toes. Step by step, the right to have a say (though not yet the right to co-determination) in university committees is extended. The goodwill and support of Secretary-General Kurt Reimann prove invaluable throughout the process. |
